There are all kinds of companies out there that claim to have the best-trained individuals on the planet, like those individuals with their Masters Degree, or those with business ethics 101. Values determine ethical balance and organizations should be well founded with positive core values with services that benefit all that they interact with. The actions and decisions of coworkers is another social factor believed to shape a person’s sense of business ethics.
Modern ethics is first and foremost, the science that allows to consider human relationships, as well as to evaluate the behavior of people in terms of generally accepted norms. To grow your business, you need to recruit more people and then encourage them to buy your products.
For example, I was speaking with an executive who shared with me that in one government organization people submit their time sheets two weeks ahead of actual working the time. It deals with issues regarding the moral and ethical rights, duties and corporate governance between a company and its shareholders, employees, customers, media, government, suppliers and dealers.
These agencies rely on social networking of their insurance agents, to get them good customers. A recent analysis of overall financial performance of the 2001 list of 100 Best Corporate Citizens shows that this group of firms did significantly better than the remaining companies of the S&P 500.
An organizational ethics policy is an announcement to the employees, the customer base and the community as a whole that the business is prepared to conduct itself and its practices on an ethical level. Ethics is about how we live in the present to prepare for the future, and a business without profits (or a plan to create them) is not meeting its ethical obligations to prepare for the future well-being of the company, its employees and customers.
